Hunters and landowners donate their legally harvested deer and other big game to qualified, inspected meat processors that participate with the program. The high-protein, low-fat meat is made available free of charge to community food banks, churches, synagogues, rescue missions, shelters, and other non-profit organizations that serve the needy. The meat is generally distributed in the same county where it is donated.
Who Pays To Have The Meat Processed And Packaged?
FHFH raises financial support to pay participating meat processors an average of $50 to process, package and freeze the meat from each donated animal. The average deer-sized animal yields 50-lbs. of meat. This equates to $1.00 per pound or about 25-cents per serving. Every donated deer provides about 200 servings of high protein red meat for the hungry among us!
